Interact

Rotary’s youth side, for school-age leaders aged 12 to 18. Action-driven service clubs run in schools and neighbourhoods — started before some members can even drive, and the first chapter of a half-century habit.

What Interact is (since 1962)

Chartered as “Interact” — short for “International Action” — by Rotary International on 5 November 1962. The first club met at Melbourne High School in Florida; the idea spread fast because the formula is honest: secondary-school students running their own service projects with a sponsor Rotary club’s network behind them.

Who joins (ages 12-18)

School-age service. Each club is based at a single school or in a geographic community; meetings happen on school grounds with a teacher advisor and the sponsor Rotary club’s liaison. Most clubs charter at high school, but younger members are common too — some countries run a separate “EarlyAct” track for primary school.

What members do

Two service projects every Rotary year: one local, one international. Beach clean-ups, school garden builds, fundraisers for partner Interact clubs overseas, food drives, blood-drive partnerships. Officers rotate yearly — by 16 most Interactors have served as a club secretary or treasurer. Project planning and fundraising are the curriculum.
